Győző Farkas, Széchenyi Prize laureate physicist, Doctor of physical sciences, Professor Emeritus at the Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics, Wigner Research Centre for Physics, has passed away at the age of 86.

Prof. Dr. Gábor Szabó, managing director of ELI-ALPS, offered two halls of the building complex to Albert Szent-Györgyi Health Center, in case the epidemiological situation would require the care of infected patients there.

On 15 May, we held a ceremonial event where we inaugurated the SYLOS 2A laser system. Designed by the Lithuanian companies EKSPLA and Light Conversion and developed in collaboration with ELI-ALPS personnel in two phases, the laser system will provide research opportunities in various fields of scientific and industrial applications.

Representatives of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) participated in the High Power Laser Science and Engineering (HPLSE) Forum on April 9-13, 2018. The event was organized by the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM) and is the largest event on laser research to be held in China and the Asian region.
