Our doors will open on Researchers’ Night

The Researchers’ Night event series is traditionally held across Europe on the last weekend of September. ELI ALPS will be open to the general public from 5 pm on 27 September. On this occasion, anyone can take a look at the laser equipment available at our research institute.

Our doors will open on Researchers’ Night

This year, we are launching a new game, in which researchers who have received the Nobel Prize for discoveries related to light will “help” our visitors at the different stations. Solving the mysteries will open the gates and allow our guests to enter the realm of unique lasers. Join us in our scientific adventures during which we will share lots of interesting facts, conduct spectacular experiments and give exciting presentations until 9 pm.

Nobel Prize winners will play a key role

Over the years, many scientists have been awarded Nobel Prizes for their work on light. what’s more, several of them have actively contributed to the development of ELI ALPS’ laser systems and secondary sources. During Researchers’ Night, you can learn about their achievements, and even enter the restricted areas of our research institute if you manage to collect five names in this group. In the restricted area, you can learn about the details of the challenging construction works of the laser hall and the installation of the equipment, and talk to colleagues who were present during the construction phase and helped equip our laboratories. You can hear about the evolution of mankind’s understanding of light, the differences between lasers and other light sources, and the uniqueness of the light sources at ELI ALPS. Our researchers will show you three of our most interesting laser systems, explain how they work and talk about the main lines of research at ELI ALPS.

You can collect the names of five Nobel Prize-winning researchers during the experimental demonstrations, lectures and in the Focus - Interactice Visitor Space, included in the event programme. Entry to the restricted access areas of our institute is only possible for guests over the age of 10, and those under 14 years of age can only enter under the supervision of an adult.

Do some research!

The Focus – Interactive Visitor Space awaits you with entertaining puzzles. Using the mysterious clues and doing a bit of brain-racking, you'll be able to put together a code which will earn you a real Nobel Prize – made of chocolate. The game is mostly recommended for teenagers and adults.
